Vicente Lucas, Belenenses legend who "dried out" Pelé, has died

Vicente Lucas, a historical figure from Belenenses who played in the 1966 World Cup for the Seleção, died this Tuesday at the age of 90, a team that was known forever as the ‘Magriços’, which included figures such as Eusébio and José Augusto.

The confirmation of the death of the footballer, who was also Matateu’s brother, was confirmed by the Restelo emblem, in a post on social media in which he remembered the man who “dried Pelé dry 60 years ago.

With a career spent entirely at Belenenses, the defender played for the ‘Blues’ for 13 seasons, having won a Portuguese Cup in 1960.

Born in Mozambique, but with dual nationality, Vicente Lucas won 20 caps for the Portugal senior team, four of which came in the final stages of the 1966 World Cup in England.
