Libertadores: Mirassol is dominated and loses on a visit to LDU

On a dark night, Mirassol was beaten by LDU 2-0, from Tuesday (14) to Wednesday (15), at the Casa Blanca Stadium, in Quito, in the second round of the Libertadores group stage. With authority, the Ecuadorian team built the result in the first half, with goals from Quiñónez and José Quintero.

With the result, Leão remains with three points and lost the opportunity to win the second consecutive victory in the competition. The Quito League, in turn, took the isolated lead in Group G, now with six points.

It is worth noting that the São Paulo team can still be overtaken by the other opponents in the group. Lanús and Always Ready, both with zeros, face each other this Wednesday (15).

LDU’s next match in the Libertadores will be on April 28th, at 7pm, against Lanús, at La Fortaleza. Mirassol, in turn, hosts Always Ready on the 29th, also at 7pm, in Maião.

LDU scores early

In the first few minutes, LDU already gave the characteristic calling card of its home games. The Ecuadorian team suffocated Mirassol and quickly managed to take advantage.

After stealing the ball in midfield, the home team advanced quickly and won a corner. During the charge, the defense partially cleared the ball, and Yerlin Quiñónez, on the rebound, hit Walter’s corner.

Ecuadorian pressure

The early goal gave even more encouragement to the home team. With authority, LDU commanded the game’s actions during practically the entire first stage. In turn, the São Paulo team found it difficult to find its footing on the field and did little to scare the Ecuadorians.

Almost the third!

After the break, Mirassol returned with a different stance, more competitive and putting pressure on LDU to get the ball out. However, it was the home team who arrived for the first time in the second half and almost ended the match.

In the eighth minute, Corozo beat Lucas Oliveira’s marking and invaded the area with danger. The attacker finished low, crossed, but the ball exploded onto the crossbar.

Game gets warm

If the Brazilian team gave signs that it could seek a reaction in the second stage, the initial momentum soon disappeared. LDU managed to balance the actions and regain control of the match. For a few minutes, neither team threatened the opposing goal.

Expelled!

Without the strength to react, Mirassol even had a player sent off in the final stretch. Defender Lucas Oliveiro received a second yellow card for a harsh tackle on Quintero and left the field early. Fair defeat for the team from São Paulo, which did not meet on the field.
