Republicans were approached by Lula and Flávio’s campaigns, but the definition should come from May

There are those who say that the path is already further along towards supporting Flávio. Internally, however, the possibility of the party declaring itself neutral is also seen as great

Marcos Pereira, national president of the Republicans

The Republican party has been courted for support at the national level by both sides: both the PL and the PT has been trying to contact the national president of the party, Marcos Pereira. The definition, however, is still far from happening, and the party should only start discussing the scenario from May onwards.

Currently, the main figure of the Republicans is the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, who has the PL as his base. Thus, a conversation with the party’s representative, senator and pre-candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), has already taken place, but nothing has been resolved. Internally, the Republicans expressed irritation with Flávio’s announcement as a candidate before communicating with other partiesat the end of last year.

On the other hand, until the beginning of April, the The party had a minister, Silvio Costa Filho, then from Ports and Airports, within the Lula (PT) government. The PT president, therefore, has already contacted Marcos Pereira, but the report found that a conversation, at least so far, is not on the horizon.

With the influence of Tarcísio, however, in addition to a more right-wing composition of the Republicans in general – which brings together names like Damares Alves and Hamilton Mourão -, There are those who say that the path is already further along towards supporting Flávio. Internally, however, the possibility of the party declaring itself neutral is also seen as great.
