Greenpeace: Asbestos pollution from Burgenland gravel in Hungary

Eisenstadt/Szombathely – According to the environmental protection organization Greenpeace, gravel from Burgenland is now also said to have led to asbestos contamination in Szombathely, Hungary. Air measurements on a gravel road in a residential area would have shown between 34,800 and 292,000 asbestos fibers per cubic meter. A health emergency has been declared in the affected community, Herwig Schuster, environmental chemist at Greenpeace, reported in a broadcast on Tuesday.
