A League of Portuguese Firefighters (LBP) decided to terminate the agreement with INEM. António Nunes guarantees that health care is not at stake and says he hopes it will be possible to negotiate a new protocol with the government.
The president of the organization, António Nunes, said that the decision to terminate the contract for non-compliance by INEM was unanimously approved this morning by the LBP National Council and will take effect 120 days after the Institute is notified of the termination.
Currently, the amount owed to humanitarian firefighters associations is “around 20 million euros”, according to the president of the League.
“The issue is not the value, it is the non-compliance with the contract”, highlighted Antonio Nunes, specifying that INEM is obliged to settle the amount owed to the firefighters for pre-hospital assistance in the month following the provision of the service, which it has not done lately.
With the termination of the agreement, INEM will, within four months, “have to negotiate with each of the humanitarian associations” the amount to be paid for the provision of pre-hospital assistance, when at the moment this is the same for all, explained Antonio Nunes.
