Shamar Elkins, 31 years old, started shooting this Sunday morning, at two houses in Louisiana. The shooter also died.
News of shootings coming from the US is not unprecedented. But this crime reached a different dimension and left the local population in shock, especially in Louisiana.
This Sunday morning, a man started shooting at two houses and killed 8 children. 7 of the dead were children of the shooter.
The shooting occurred in a neighborhood of Shreveport and still hurt com gravity two women – one of them was the wife of the shooter, mother of his children. The wife was the first person to be shot.
The 8 children shot dead were all in the same house; one was found dead on the roof, she was trying to escape. And they all had between 1 and 11 years old.
O shooter also he died. He was chased by the local police and was shot dead by the agents.
His name was Shamar Elkins, he was 31 years old. In 2019 he was found guilty of illegal possession of weapons; was released on parole. There was no record of domestic violence.
Elkins was a member of the Louisiana Army National Guard and left the Guard in August 2020, the .
It is not known what motivated this crime. Shreveport police believe the shooting was “entirely a domestic incident.”
“I don’t know what to say, I’m just shocked,” said Wayne Smith, Shreveport Police Chief. “I can’t even imagine how something like this could happen.”
