Toy was one of the many artists to be present at the 8th edition of the PLAY Awards – Portuguese Music Awards and took to the stage, together with Eduardo Madeira, to present the award for “Best Light and Popular Song”.
Even before presenting the trophy to Khiaro, Luís Fialho and Marotos da Concertina, for the song “Oh Clementina”, Toy decided to leave a first message.
“Don’t confuse popular and light music with people who don’t have your intellectual nature, because sometimes writing love songs may seem simple, but…”these.
Moments later, Toy also made a reference to the “boycott” made by some artists and countries of the Eurovision festival, due to Israel’s participation, leaving his opinion on the fact that Portugal participated.
“I would also like to congratulate whoever won the RTP da Canção Festival. Regarding the boycott we tried, I realize that the guys need to show themselves, they are at the beginning of their career and it’s good for them, and I think they do a lot of good, just never say that culture and politics don’t mix”realized.
The Portuguese singer later explained: “Because culture is the best weapon against some political systems, like the child killer [Benjamin] Netanyahu, [primeiro-ministro de Israel]and how the son of a bitch Donald Trump, in Portuguese son of a bitch”he said, receiving a loud applause from the audience.
