She hid a painful secret from the world for three years! Moderator Andrea Pálffy Belányiová is always a positive person who is famous for her ringing laugh. Behind the optimistic smile on her face, however, she hid fear and anxiety in the past. The TV JOJ news star was horrified by doctors with an oncological finding after a routine mammographic examination. An unexpected lump in her breast then turned her life upside down.
“It was a big shock for me when I found out that I probably have breast cancer, at first there were of course tears, regret and also anger, that what kind of justice is it for me to have this burden in addition to my disabled daughter. But it only lasted a while.” she told Pálffy-Belányiová. Clinging to her knees, she very quickly rose back to her feet and bravely faced the difficulties head on. “After that I concentrated on solving the problem, I studied a lot about it and consulted with several doctors. I was helped a lot by a wonderful woman who went through the same life situation and was a great support for me as well as my great friends and family.” the presenter told us.
According to her, a harsh blow from fate came unexpectedly, when in 2023, after two years, she had the appointment of the aforementioned mammography. Everything changed there in a few seconds. “The round of examinations and processing the new reality began. I went to the examination as a healthy woman and left as a potential oncology patient. The doctor told me to go and make an appointment for a biopsy right away. My finding was in the early stages and I would not feel it for a long time. Only imaging techniques could reveal it,” Andrea recalls, saying that only a mammogram would really catch her finding and it wouldn’t be visible on an ultrasound.
“Thanks to the fact that I am responsible to myself and take preventive measures, this disease was detected in time. I do not understand women who avoid it and ignore medical conveniences. Or they believe self-proclaimed experts and charlatans who convince them that mammography is harmful. Please believe in science and progress. Of course, just like with vaccinations, also with mammography, you can find two or three studied experts who claim that it’s harmful, but try listening to the 97 who are ‘for’,” Pálffy Belányiová appeals to all women, whose story should be a warning finger to anyone who just waves her hand or can’t find the time.
“I was very lucky that I was at that check-up, that the image was evaluated by a doctor who did it consistently and immediately noticed the changes, that it was finally in the initial stage and that I avoided radiation and chemotherapy. I underwent a major five and a half hour operation, during which my glands were removed and replaced with implants.” describes for a popular jockey. The fight with the enemy was successful, but nothing, including the most important prevention, should be underestimated. “I am now taking pill hormone treatment. My body has regenerated nicely and I, for example, do not notice at all that I have lost my breasts. I just have them now unplanned with silicone.” Andrea added with a laugh and relief in her voice.
The presenter emphasizes that the skilled surgeons did an excellent job. “I thank them very much, as well as the other medical staff, whether at the National Oncology Center or at the St. Elizabeth’s Institute, where I also underwent several examinations. And finally, I fondly remember the many patients I met during that period, some of whom became my friends.” says Pálffy Belányiová.
We were interested in how she copes with all the consequences of her successful fight for life, in addition to the aforementioned pill hormonal treatment. “As for the recovery, I think that the first half of the year was the most demanding, because the body has to get back together after such a big operation. It was difficult, for example, to open a bottle, to grate cheese. But now I am functioning normally as before.” added the TV professional, who did not reveal anything about herself during the entire treatment period. She has been 120 percent involved in the work and family carousel for a long time.
