At a PSDB event in São Paulo, former governor says that “the population is being distracted by these things of hate and passion”
The former governor of Ceará (PSDB) stated this Saturday (April 25, 2026) that Brazil faces a “structural and historical crisis” and argued that the country needs a “rupture”and not just a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic.
The statement was made during a PSDB meeting with pre-candidates, held at Clube Juventus, in the capital of São Paulo.
According to Ciro, the economic scenario is marked by high interest rates, low growth and high debt for families and companies. He stated that the current model slows down the economy and prevents productive investments: “Brazil has the highest real interest rate in the world. Therefore, the economy stops”.
Ciro also criticized the political system and stated that the population had lost trust in their representatives. “The people are not looking for a candidate, they are looking for solutions to concrete problems”he stated.
In the former governor’s assessment, polarization has diverted the population’s attention from the country’s main economic problems, such as high interest rates and debt: “The population is being distracted by these things of hate and passion, while the country is going into the hole”.
When commenting on the possibility of running for President in 2026 for the PSDB, Ciro said he is evaluating it and intends to make a decision by May. For him, the main challenge is to return the debate to concrete proposals. “What matters is showing people what is actually happening in the economy”these.
