Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Thursday that he had ordered contact with US President Donald Trump’s team to clarify the details of Russia’s proposal for a short-term ceasefire during Victory Day over Fascism celebrations. “I have instructed our representatives to contact the team of the President of the United States and clarify the details of the Russian proposal for a short-term ceasefire. Ukraine is seeking peace and doing the necessary diplomatic work to truly end this war. We will clarify what exactly it is, whether it is a few hours to arrange a tour in Moscow, or a little more“, Zelenskyj wrote on the X social network.
The Ukrainian president added that his proposal is “a long-term ceasefire, reliable and guaranteed security of people and permanent peace”. “Ukraine is ready to work on it in any dignified and effective format,” he added.
Russian President Vladimir Putin informed Trump during a joint phone call on Wednesday that is ready to declare a truce with Ukraine during the upcoming Victory Day celebrations, announced his advisor Yuriy Ushakov. The head of the White House supported this proposal and, in his own words, proposed to Putin a “certain truce” in the war in Ukraine. Victory Day over fascism is commemorated in Russia on May 9. Several world leaders, including the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, Robert Fico, will arrive in Moscow this year for the traditional celebrations.
