According to the President of the Slovak Republic, Petr Pellegrini, the European Union (EU) is our living and strategic space, in which we as a nation develop freely and build our economic and social prosperity. The head of state emphasized this in a video on the social network on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of Slovakia’s entry into the EU.
“Exactly 22 years ago, one of the most significant milestones in the modern history of Slovakia was fulfilled. We became part of a project built on economic and security cooperation, on common values of democracy and humanism,” said Pellegrini.
According to him, it is important for our future that we have a historic opportunity to shape and influence it within the community of states associated in the European Union. “We are part of a space where borders do not mean barriers, but only symbolic lines on the map, through which we freely travel, work and study. We are part of economic projects thanks to which we built kilometers of roads, reconstructed our cities, modernized hospitals and schools.” sumarizoval president.
He emphasized that Europe is not only about funds and economic, social or ecological projects. “The European Union is also us. We are the ones who sit equally at the common table with the big states and decide what our continent will look like.” the president explained. According to him, it is up to us what role we want to play in this community of nations, so that we are not only self-confident, but also a constructive and fair partner.
According to Pellegrini, it is also in Slovakia’s interest to make the European Union a player that is an active part of international processes. Also a player who is able to establish peace with his political, economic and diplomatic pressure. “A respected European Union also means a respected Slovakia,” declared the president.
At the same time, he also remembered Friday Labor Day. According to the head of state, May Day is a symbol of respect for working people, to their talent, intelligence and hard work, with which they create everyday values in our homeland.
