Former Secretary of Public Security and federal deputy Guilherme Derrite (PP) plans to launch his pre-candidacy for the Federal Senate next week.

The former Secretary of Public Security and federal deputy Guilherme Derrite (PP) plans to launch his pre-candidacy for the Federal Senate next week.

The events, in Campinas and Sorocaba, should take place on the 15th and 16th of May, respectively, with the presence of the pre-candidate for the Presidency, Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), and the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).

Making it official would be a response to right-wingers who have been talking about Derrite giving up. With at least three names in the running – the and that of federal deputy Ricardo Salles (NOVO), who runs on the outside -, there are those who say that the former secretary may abandon his plans and run again for the Chamber as a “vote puller”. In the column, Guilherme Derrite rejected the idea: “I’m not going to give up. It’s official”, he commented.

According to PP interlocutors, Derrite continues to appear first on the right in polls of voting intentions for the Senate. The problem lies precisely in the number of candidates: a wing of the party defends that the number be reduced to two competitors, so that the votes are not divided.

In this scenario, someone would have to leave the electoral race – . There is an expectation that Tarcísio will intervene and negotiate to secure candidates of interest, . He could negotiate positions, for example, in possible re-election, in exchange for the withdrawal of candidacies.

Members of the right interviewed by the report do not rule out the possibility of Derrite leaving. There is an understanding that Salles has been growing in research in the wake of the NOVO presidential pre-candidate, Romeu Zema. THE reading is that the former governor of Minas Gerais is gaining ground with advertising pieces against the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

The assessment is that Derrite would perform well as a deputy, casting around 1 million votes, yielding seats for the PP. To the column, a source confided that the two plans, A (Senate) and B (House) would be good for the party, and that the final definition will depend on voting intention polls close to the conventions, in July, when the decision needs to be made.

Right in shock

Until then, Derrite’s name was taken for granted from the beginning of the conversations. His early departure from SSP, in December last year, was already considered in this sense. He and the PP also have electoral intentions in São Paulo for 2030.

Meanwhile, the second vacancy was open until recently. Names like Mário Frias and Mello Araújo spent a lot of time in the running (PL), but were removed after Tarcísio’s intervention in favor of André do Prado.

To sew this agreement, the “owner” of the PL Senate seat, former federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, should be cast as a substitute, and could take over in the event of his return to Brazil – in this scenario, André do Prado would have some position in Flávio’s eventual government or Tarcísio’s re-election, such as a ministry or secretariat.

Another frightening factor was the announcement by Podemos about the candidacy for the Senate of federal deputy Delegado Palumbo. Around Tarcísio, Palumbo is seen as a very strong figure who can take votes away from right-wing candidates.

The political group views the division with concern, and understands that it must lose one of the two Senate seats to the left, .
