The ‘pure blood’ ticket ends a dispute that caused disagreements between right-wing politicians in the state
The senator and pre-candidate for President of the Republic, Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ)participated in the launch of pre-candidacies for his political group this Saturday (9), in Santa Catarina. The political event confirmed that the PL will compete for the two open seats in the Senate with federal deputy Carol de Toni and with former Rio de Janeiro councilor Carlos Bolsonaro, who transferred his electoral domicile to the Southern State.
The “pure blood” slate of PL candidates for the Senate ends a dispute that caused disagreements between right-wing politicians in Santa Catarina. Before Carlos’ change, the group’s candidates would be De Toni and Senator Esperidião Amin (PP-SC), who will seek re-election.
With the decision, Amin distanced himself from governor Jorginho Mello (PL) and aligned himself with João Rodrigues (PSD), mayor of Chapecó who will run for state government.
“I want to remember that this election will have two rounds. And I haven’t seen anyone, until today, say that they don’t believe that João Rodrigues, reaching the second round, won’t win the election”, stated the PP senator in a political event, on Friday, 8
In the act with Flávio, Carlos and De Toni exchanged compliments and caresses and indicated that they are working together to be the two senators elected by Santa Catarina in the October elections.
“Thank you for all the consideration and sympathy you have for me. You are fundamental for all this to happen here”, said the former councilor. “God willing, we will be together in this challenge of doing what needs to be done in the Senate”, stated the deputy.
Carlos Bolsonaro’s change of electoral domicile it is part of a family strategy to try to have an easier election for Jair Bolsonaro’s son and, with this, increase the number of seats that the right controls in the Senate. In Rio, the dispute is more fierce and the group has former governor Cláudio Castro (PL) in the dispute.
In his speech, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro criticized the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and said that the Workers’ Party will remain in “insignificance” from next year onwards.
O senator also mentioned his father. He said that Jair Bolsonaro’s “mission” is not over yet and that the former president “will climb the Planalto ramp” in 2027.
Flávio contradicts himself and talks about an eight-year government
In a speech to supporters on Friday, in Santa Catarina, Flávio Bolsonaro suggested that, if elected, can try an eight-year government, with two terms.
When making comments about how he intended to leave the country at the end of the government, he said that this could happen “whether in four, five, eight years from now”.
The senator’s tone contradicts his previous statements, which he had been signaling that he intended serve only one term as presidentif elected.
In March, he filed a proposed amendment to the Constitution (PEC) that prohibits re-election to the position of President of the Republic. The text says that the amendment would come into force on the date of its promulgation and would apply to the president who wins the 2026 elections.
Flavio started talking about not being re-elected to try to support the center for its candidacy project. His father, Jair Bolsonaro, used the same method in 2018 when defending the end of re-election. Four years later, he ran for another term and was defeated by Lula.
