A Spanish passenger on the MV Hondius cruise ship tested positive for hantavirus in hospital this Monday. The information is provided by the Spanish press.
AND one of the passengers on the MV Hondius who had disembarked from the ship on Sunday.
The man was subjected to a PCR test upon arrival at Gómez Ulla Hospital in Madridwhere he is in quarantine. The positive test is provisional and will be repeated “in the next few hours” to confirm the result.
No presents symptoms and, according to the Minister of Health, his general health status “is good”.
The patient will be transferred to a High Level Treatment unit.
The remaining 13 Spanish passengers tested negative. These will also be subjected to a new PCR test.
Hantavirus is generally transmitted from infected rodents. However, the variant detected on the ship – the Andes hantavirus – is rare and can be transmitted from person to person.
