Democrat launches brigadeiro as pre-candidate for president – 05/13/2026 – Panel

This Tuesday (12), the Democrat launched the pre-candidacy for president of Brigadeiro Átila Maia, with a nationalist platform, which intends to compete for votes in the already congested center-right field.

“We believe that there is space for the population to choose the best possible proposal. This is healthy for democracy”, says the party’s vice-president, Sidclei Bernardo.

The retired soldier joined the party at the beginning of the year and has already published his government plan, with the title “Regenera Brasil”. “So far he is the only one who has presented proposals to the country”, says Bernardo.

The Democrats are a party with no free election hours, low presence in the states and will not have the right to participate in debates on TV. This, according to the leader, does not scare the party, which promises to maintain the candidacy until the end.

An inspiration, he says, is Jair Bolsonaro’s campaign in 2018, which also had little structure. “The issue is not whether it is big or small, but whether the population understands the project”, says Bernardo.

The Bolsonarist electorate, says the vice-president, is a natural target for the brigadeiro’s candidacy. But there is no discussion, for example, about granting amnesty to the former president. “This discussion is already being held in the National Congress”, declares the leader.

The Democrat also intends to launch candidates for state governments and dreams of a bench of up to 15 deputies. The best-known name is that of the former governor of Rio de Janeiro, who aims to return to office.
