The mountains of northern and central Slovakia are threatened with stronger winds. In this context, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) has issued a first level warning for some districts. He informed about it on his website.
The first level of warning against wind in the mountains concerns districts of Banská Bystrica, Brezno, Poprad, Dolný Kubín, Liptovský Mikuláš, Martin, Námestovo, Ružomberok, Tvrdošín and Žilina. It is valid from Thursday 10 p.m. until Friday (5/15) lunch.
The wind can reach gusts of 110 to 135 kilometers per hour in the mountains. “The predicted wind speed is normal for the time of year and area, but it represents a potential hazard for human activities (especially hiking, climbing, etc.),” warned meteorologists.
