A speed of 20 km/h will only be permitted on cycle paths or cycle lanes installed on the streets. If the lane is on the sidewalk or in a median shared with the pedestrian area, the limit drops to 6 km/h.
On roads, with regulated speeds of up to 50 km/h without a cycle path or cycle lane, such equipment must respect the already established speed and follow the edge of the road.
Bicycle circulation is increasingly common in São Paulo. Aliança Bike (Brazilian Association of the Bicycle Sector) showed, in August 2025, that 212 thousand new units, including self-propelled ones, arrived on the Brazilian market in recent years.
