Eva-Maria Holzleitner didn’t cut a good figure: clumsy communication put the SPÖ politician on the defensive. Nevertheless, it would be wrong to place the responsibility for cuts at the universities on her personally. Because where else can a science minister who has to save money start? The problem is the government’s wrong priorities: ÖVP, SPÖ and Neos spend money on projects that are less urgent than securing education and research.
