A brief historical overview: The original edition of this grandfather of criminal deduction games was published in the United States in 1981 and 1982 under the title Criminal Cabinet and was launched in Germany in 1984. Starting in 2011, gently adapted new editions were developed and have since been reissued under the name mentioned in the title of the article (and three other case packages). After this mountain of text appeared in Germany, the (then still quite young) jury for the Game of the Year made what, in the opinion of the consulting detective trainee reporting here, was – to this day – the most unusual decision in the entire history of the red-poepel award. While the award for the game of the year, including all the subcategories that have now been thrown into the world, is usually awarded with the aim of reaching the broadest possible target audience (okay, now the IP lawyer is coming through), Sherlock is of such special interest that it couldn’t be more niche. Of course, this does not change the quality of the award-winning work package one iota.
