A body was found late this Monday morning (1st) during search work for Dheoge Pereira Bernardino, aged 28, who disappeared at sea in Ilhabela (SP), on May 24th. The identity of the body found had not been disclosed until the publication of this report.

According to the Maritime Fire Brigade (GBMar), the body was located by Civil Defense agents, who called the firefighters. The location was not informed by GBMar. The search for Dheoge is in its ninth day.

He disappeared after going out on a watercraft to go for a walk with a friend. The two were at a party on a speedboat with other acquaintances. Upon realizing that the two were taking a long time to return, their friends began looking for them.

Dheoge’s friend, Bruna Damaris Sant’anna da Silva, 26, was found alive last Tuesday (26) and was discharged from hospital on Thursday (28). Upon leaving the hospital, Bruna asked people to continue praying for Dheoge.

“I also urgently ask you to continue praying for my colleague, who has not yet been found. I thank everyone for their concern. Now I’m going home so I can rest and see my family,” he said.

Last moments before leaving

A friend of Dheoge who was at the party on the boat, Dyego Dutra da Silva, said he had used the watercraft moments before. “I had gone to get energy drinks on a jet ski with Mineiro (another friend present at the place). It was when we came back, Mineiro docked the jet on the boat and went to the bathroom because he was feeling a little ill”he recalled in an interview with TV Vanguarda, a local Globo affiliate.

Soon afterwards, Dheoge would have picked up the equipment for the trip with Bruna. “We realized (that they had left) because it had been a while since they had gone to sea, the Mineiro asked about them when he came out of the bathroom. And he was already giving the time to rent the boat, that’s when we set off on the boat looking for them”, he said.

Until last Thursday (28), the main hypothesis of the investigation into what happened was that the watercraft had a breakdown and stopped working, then sank. The equipment was located on Monday (25) and sent for forensic examination.

“From what I’ve heard, from what I’ve found, it’s still nothing official, considering that the vessel, the jet ski, is for forensic purposes. The vessel stopped in the middle of the sea, it went out. They stayed on the vessel for a while, it started to sink, then they had to disembark and they were adrift at sea for that entire period”, said the delegate responsible for the case, Caio Nunes de Miranda, in an interview with Vanguarda.

Bruna was found floating in the sea by two fishermen. She was floating thanks to the life jacket she was wearing and was not seriously injured. However, she had to be hospitalized for two days at the Mário Covas hospital, in Ilhabela, due to physical exertion and the lack of food and water during the two days she spent adrift.
