A man in Dortmund shot a police officer and barricaded himself in an apartment with three children. He surrendered after a dramatic night and the police are now investigating the whole incident.
The man who shot a police officer in the West German city of Dortmund and then barricaded himself in an apartment with his children surrendered this morning. This was reported by the DPA agency, writes TASR.
The whole incident started on Tuesday evening when the perpetrator’s wife turned to the police for help. When security forces arrived at the scene, the man fired a gun at the police officer. He then barricaded himself in the apartment, where his three children were also.
The police are investigating the circumstances of the detention
A police spokesman said in the morning that it was not clear whether the perpetrator had a weapon with him the whole time. It is not yet clear whether the children’s mother was also in the apartment. Police say there was no danger to the public.
The newspaper Bild reported that the man had first gone on a rampage in one of the restaurants, threatening guests and using tear gas. He was then supposed to escape by car. When the police tried to stop him, he allegedly shot through the window and hit the officer. The police have not yet confirmed this information.
