Seven opposition deputies sent a request for information to the Minister of Mines and Energy, about the country’s actions in the midst of the oil crisis.
Parliamentarians want to know about the drop in fuel imports amid the , the state-owned company’s inventory management and Petrobras’ advertising campaign.
In some of the questions, the opposition says that diesel imports by the state-owned company have reduced in recent months and were at zero in April, the most serious month of the global crisis. Furthermore, they cite a possible collapse in the oil market with the end of global stocks.
Deputies want to know why Petrobras reduced stocks amid the crisis, what the schedule is like for the coming months and the contingency plan for an interruption scenario.
The request was authored by deputy Coronel Fernanda (-MT) and signed by six other parliamentarians from PL, Republicans and União Brasil.
The document also mentions an auction promoted by the state-owned company, in which it sells diesel at prices well above those practiced in the market, while maintaining a stock well above what is required. And he questions whether Petrobras’ objective is to take advantage of the crisis to restrict the supply of fuel in the country.
Finally, the opposition criticizes an advertising campaign by Petrobras, in which the state-owned company refers to its own and the government’s actions in mitigation
The Lula government used the subsidy for diesel and exemption from federal taxes on aviation kerosene and biodiesel to contain rising prices in Brazil.
Deputies say there is a mix between the company’s corporate communication and the federal government’s political defense and ask for more transparency.
“The information request seeks to ensure transparency, respect for competition rules and preservation of price freedom, as well as to eliminate any doubts regarding the possible use of the company for purposes that go beyond its business activities”, says the document.
