The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will accompany Pope Leo XIV in the meeting that the pontiff will hold with . Along with Sánchez, the Minister of the Presidency and Justice, Félix Bolaños, will travel to the Gran Canaria dock; the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres; and the Minister of Migration, Elma Saiz. The Arguineguín pier became one of the great symbols of the migratory crisis in 2020 when a camp was improvised there in which nearly 3,000 people were crammed into just 200 meters who had arrived by boat through the Atlantic route. On June 11, several migrants who undertook this journey will tell their experience before the Pope during what will be the first visit of a pontiff to the Canary Islands.
