Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met this Sunday (7) with Pakistan’s envoy for peace negotiations with the United States in Tehran, according to Iranian media.
Araghchi met with , according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.
Pakistan has been mediating between Iran and the US in an effort to strengthen the ceasefire that began in April.
Naqvi also met with Eskandar Momeni, Iran’s Interior Minister, on Saturday night (6) and said he was in the country to deliver a message to Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.
The US and Iran appear far from reaching an agreement on issues such as Iran’s nuclear enrichment program, its reserves of enriched uranium, the demand to unfreeze billions of dollars in Iranian assets held in foreign banks and freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
In an interview on Friday (5), US President Donald Trump said that Iranians are “strong, they are proud, there are things they never thought they would do that they will have to do. They have no choice and it takes a while.”
Trump has previously said he is prepared to be patient while a memorandum of understanding between the two countries is finalized, even though meetings occur almost daily.
