What kind of poet is this who poses as a proletarian and a literary star at the same time? Invited to give a poetry lecture at the Literaturhaus Graz, says Dinçer Güçyeter, author of Our Germany fairy talewhat it feels like to spend forty months wandering around the literary world as a “traveling clown” after winning two major book prizes. Meanwhile, no new texts are created: “Instead, I wrote around 50 emails a day, filled out forms, wrote invoices, and drove to my tax advisor every two weeks.” In order to be able to write poetry again, he retreats to the Turkish village where his family comes from. This completely different world, far removed from literary events, freed from the pressure of being a “poet-actor”. Dreams, memories and spaces provide good conditions for his creativity. Plus fresh fruit from the market, the flavors of the region, the music of Turkish singers, poems by Turkish authors, not to forget coffee and cigarettes. Distance from Germany allows him to reflect for the first time.
