Iran targets US bases after attack near Hormuz

Iran said it launched, this Wednesday (June 10, 2026), missile and drone attacks against US military bases in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain. The action was announced by the Revolutionary Guards as a response to US bombings against Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz.

According to , the attacks mark one of the biggest exchanges of hostilities between the 2 countries since the ceasefire signed in April. The escalation comes after the US attacked Iranian targets in response to the downing of a US Apache helicopter near Hormuz on Tuesday (June 9). The 2 crew members were rescued.

The US military said the bombings hit Iran’s air defense systems, ground control stations and surveillance radars. A US official said, on condition of anonymity, that nearly 20 Iranian targets were hit.

The Revolutionary Guard said it responded with attacks on US bases in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan. According to the group, 4 points at the Al-Azraq base in Jordan were targeted with long-range missiles, including F-35 fighter hangars and a command and control center.

The Jordanian military said it intercepted and shot down 5 missiles launched from Iran towards Al-Azraq. According to the Jordanian Army, debris fell on the country’s territory, but left no injuries or caused material damage.

The Kuwaiti Army said its air defense systems responded to hostile targets and advised the population to follow official safety instructions. In Bahrain, a communications adviser to the king said the country’s air defenses repelled Iranian attacks.

A US official said initial assessments indicated that almost all missiles and drones launched by Iran had been intercepted.
