Canada player who broke his leg during the game undergoes surgery

Canadian midfielder Ismael Koné, who suffered a serious injury during his team’s 6-0 World Cup victory over Qatar, underwent surgery and is out of the competition, the Canadian national team announced this Friday (19). “During the night, Ismaël Koné underwent successful surgery to treat a fracture in his left leg,” the Canadian team wrote on its X account.

“He should make a full recovery, but will miss the rest of the World Cup. You will come back stronger, Isma!”, adds the statement.

At the beginning of the second half of the Group B game played in Vancouver, Koné received a hit from Assim Madibo (who ended up being sent off), in a move that generated apprehension at the BC Stadium.

The strong images from the broadcast showed the lower part of the player’s left tibia bent inwards.

The serious injury was the sad note of Canada’s first World Cup victory, which, with four points, leads Group B and has qualified for the round of 16 finals.
