The mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), reported this Sunday (20) that he foresees a reduction in TransWolff lines in the capital. According to him, it was analyzed that there is an overlap of eae linesThe estimate is that there will be a 20% reduction in the company structure with the new tender that will be launched soon.
“We are going to place a tender in two lots and each one should have around 350 to 400 buses. We will no longer have the 1,200 buses, all from TransWolfbecause we are going to cancel the overlap”, said the agent, adding that there will be a readjustment of the lines making the main objective of the entire process to be serving the population, so that people can have good transport.
“I am determined to improve transport and do what is best for the population and the public transport system”. said Nunes. The mayor highlighted that he spoke with Secretary Celso and the president of SPTrans (São Paulo Transporte), who is currently responsible for TransWolff, to make adjustments regarding the overlapping of lines.
The notice, however, which should be presented soon bringing these changes, it has to go through the Municipal Audit Court (TCM).
According to Celso Caldeira, municipal secretary of mobility and transport, Studies are still being analyzed, but the reduction should be 20% of Transwolff’s 111 lines. “We are carrying out the reorganization, this means the rationalization of the entire system, we have in principle a study that shows that at least 20% of the lines will be cut or canceled, but this is not definitive yet, the study is in progress to present to the mayor, so that he can approve it and we can continue with the notice”, said the secretary.
A Transwolff has been operated by SPTrans since April 2024when the target of Operation Fim da Linha, by the Ministry of São Paulo, which resulted in the arrest of 18 directors for alleged links with organized crime and money laundering. The operation revealed evidence that the directors companies had ties to the criminal faction Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC). The lines operated by Transwolff and UPBus transport approximately 650 thousand passengers daily, and in 2023, the two companies received R$800 million from the city hall.
