Netanyahu wants autonomy in armaments and defends an end to dependence on the USA

The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, stated this Tuesday, 23, that he deeply appreciates the support of the Americans, but that Israel needs to free itself from dependence and build its own independent weapons network.

“I want independence in armaments. I deeply appreciate the support that we have received, and that I have also brought over the years, from our American friends. Today I say: we need our own independent armaments network”, said the prime minister at an event in Gush Etzion.

In the speech released this Tuesday, 23, by the Israeli government, Netanyahu added that Tel Aviv is facing Iran and its allies. “We hit them. It’s not over yet, it depends on our strength,” he emphasized.

In parallel, Israel’s Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, commented that the nation is capable of challenging US President Donald Trump if necessary and that a ceasefire in Lebanon is “unacceptable”.

Responding to a question from the Israeli media outlet Arutz ShevaBen-Gvir stressed that Israel could “of course” reject an appeal from Trump.

He added that the right-wing ruling coalition he is part of could remain in power after the next elections later this year, but “we will need to work on it.”
