A disaster of enormous proportions: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sends an important message to Slovaks!

Due to the strong earthquakes that were recorded on June 24 in the area off the coast of Venezuela, near the capital Caracas, there was also to infrastructure damage, including the international airport near Caracas. International airports in Venezuela are temporarily closed, which may lead to traffic disruptions. The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic informs about this on its website.

Department of Slovak Diplomacy advises people if they are in the country to follow the instructions of local authorities and security forceschecked the status of their flight with the airline and expected possible delays and changes in air, rail and road transport. At the same time, they should maintain increased caution when moving in the affected areas.

Thursday night an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 hit the north of Venezuela first. Less than a minute later, the second followed with a force of 7.5. The epicenter was located approximately 160 kilometers west of the metropolis of Caracas. It was Venezuela’s strongest earthquake since 1900 and destroyed several buildings near the capital, AFP reported. At least 164 people lost their lives, almost 1000 others were injured.
