Initiative sends messages about prevention and alert against fraud and informs the channels for recording incidents
The Federal Government, this Friday (June 26, 2026), launched a new phase of the Safe Cell Phone Program, aimed at sending messages to users who live in regions with the highest rates of cell phone theft and theft in the country.
The initiative guides the population on preventive measures and responses to crimes against mobile devices. Among the guidelines sent are the registration of trusted people to act in cases of theft or theft and checking the Imei (cell phone registration number) before purchasing a device.
The Safe Cell Phone Program messages also inform about the possibility of registering incidents with the BNCR (National Bank of Restricted Cell Phones) in cases of theft, theft or other events related to the device.
BNCR
On Tuesday (June 23), the president (PT) issued a decree that formally establishes the BNCR, a platform coordinated by Senasp (National Public Security Secretariat) that gathers information on stolen, stolen or lost devices in Brazil.
In addition to information from the Safe Cellular Program, the BNCR will gather records from the Civil Police of all States, telephone operators, national public security systems, Cemi (Register of Impeded Mobile Stations), Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency) and ABR Telecom.
FRAUD ALERTS
The Federal Government states that its official communications never contain links open to clicks. Official messages only have buttons at the end of the text.
Any message received outside the Gov.br platform that requests access to check balances, update data or provide personal information must be treated with suspicion by the user.
The government also says that it does not request data such as CPF and address nor does it make charges or payment requests via WhatsApp.
The authenticity of official communications can be verified by the blue badge of a verified account from the Government of Brazil on WhatsApp and by sending the same message to the Gov.br application’s voice mail.
