The Hungarian government of the Tisza party took over the budget in a “dramatically bad” state after the government of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced this on Monday at the beginning of an extraordinary session of the Parliament, whose speech was broadcast live on his official Facebook page, the TASR correspondent in Budapest reports.
- The Tisza government took over the budget in bad shape.
- Prime Minister Magyar criticized the budgetary policy of the Orbán government.
- He accused the Fidesz government of inaction and links to organized crime.
- Magyar’s government adopted several anti-corruption and social measures.
“I have no words to describe the Russian roulette that the Orbán government has called budget policy. What they have done is professionally, politically and morally unacceptable,” Magyar said. The prime minister recalled that this situation was analyzed by members of his cabinet at an informal weekend meeting in the village of Pilisszentkereszt (Mlynky), 32 kilometers northwest of Budapest.
According to his words, Orbán’s government knew that the data of the state budget were not correct, because the budget also included EU funds, which they knew they would not have access to. “Every billion spent without coverage is missing somewhere, from the salaries of police officers and teachers, from the development of energy efficiency, from investments in water management, from the wallets of pensioners, from the protection of children,” Magyar noted.
The government was held by organized crime, he said
“Fidesz was not interested in one thing at all. In governing, that is, in the work done for the Hungarian people, for the fate of the homeland, for the prosperity of our children and grandchildren. The last years of Orbán’s government were held together by only one thing, organized crime, so that handcuffs would not snap and no files would be opened,” said the prime minister.
For the past 50 days of his cabinet’s rule, Magyar recalled the creation of independent ministries, emphasized that programs for the development of hospital air conditioning equipment had been launched. He listed the measures for the protection of children, spoke about the investigation of corruption cases, among the adopted laws he highlighted the reduction of the salaries of parliamentarians, the adoption of an anti-corruption package of laws, the law on the media, and he also mentioned the steps towards the release of the frozen funds of the European Union.
They blame him for not fulfilling his promises
The chairman of the Naša vlast (Mi Hazánk Mozgalom) parliamentary club, László Toroczkai, criticized the ruling party for not wanting to restore the rule of law, as it claims, but is literally moving away from it. He therefore criticized steps in the area of limiting the mandate of deputies, as well as the effort to recall President Tamás Sulyok. The leader of the KDNP faction, Bence Rétvári, blamed the Magyar government for failing to fulfill several promises, especially in the social field, in 50 days.
Fidesz faction chairman Gergely Gulyás recalled the achievements of Fidesz governments in the past 16 years. He added that the constitutional changes under Tisza’s government eliminate political opponents and exclude the chairman of the largest opposition party, former prime minister Viktor Orbán, from the position of prime minister.
