Fan who dreamed of meeting Ronaldo again 13 years later died days before the start of the World Cup

Ronald Gjoka’s dream was to meet Cristiano Ronaldo again to thank him for a gesture that, according to his family, changed his life. However, the fan died in an accident just days before Portugal arrived in the United States to compete in the 2026 World Cup.

The story was revealed in a report by Renascença and dates back to 2013, when Ronald, then 19 years old, invaded the pitch during a match between Real Madrid CF and Chelsea FC, in Miami, to hug Cristiano Ronaldo.

After being arrested, the young man faced legal proceedings and was at risk of being deported. On that occasion, Cristiano Ronaldo signed a letter addressed to prosecutors, asking for the charges to be dropped, a gesture that ended up being decisive in the outcome of the case.

Thirteen years later, Ronald dreamed of meeting the national team captain again during the World Cup, just to personally thank him for everything he had done for him. However, he died in an accident in Juno Beach, Florida, on June 7, 2026, just four days before the start of the competition.

In an interview with Rádio Renascença, his mother, Malva Gjoka, left an emotional message addressed to the Portuguese international: “If I could speak to Cristiano now, I would just say: thank you. Thank you for saving my son’s life. Thank you for giving me a few more years with him.”

The report rescues a story of solidarity that marked Ronald’s life and shows how a gesture from Cristiano Ronaldo continued to have an impact many years later.
