Jordanian emergency teams sent to Venezuela rescued a child in the early hours of Tuesday, the only survivor pulled from the rubble alive on the sixth day of rescue operations following two devastating earthquakes last week, Venezuelan officials said.
Klieber Moran was removed from the Los Corales Garden 1 building, in the State of La Guaira, by Jordanian rescue teams, after spending six days trapped under the rubble,reported the interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, in a Telegram message.
Venezuela was hit by two earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 less than a minute apart last Wednesday, collapsing buildings and leaving thousands of people trapped under the rubble, according to authorities and rescue teams.
Moran — described as 3 years old by Rodríguez, but as 2 years old by the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez — was later taken to receive medical treatment, the interim president said.
“We must maintain hope of continuing to find people alive under the rubble,” Jorge Rodríguez said in a televised speech. “In the early hours of today, a 2-year-old boy was rescued and is receiving care at a health center in Caracas.”
A United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) shipment of 47 tons of humanitarian supplies arrived in Venezuela on Tuesday, United Nations (UN) spokesman Stephane Dujarric said, adding that the material would help support children and families in need.

The shipment includes emergency health kits for urgent medical care, including supplies for safe births, newborn care, disease prevention and treatment, Dujarric added.
