This was reported by The Washington Post (WP) on Sunday, citing unnamed sources. According to WP Trump called on the head of the Kremlin not to escalate the war in Ukraine, which is facing a Russian invasion from February 2022.
During the discussion on Ukraine, Trump allegedly also reminded Putin of the “significant military presence of the United States in Europe”, said the American newspaper, whose report was taken over by Reuters. The Republican already claimed during the election campaign that he could end the war in Ukraine “within one day”and possibly even before assuming the office of president. So far, he has not explained how he would achieve this.
According to the media, Trump already spoke on the phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday after the victory in the US presidential elections. Since then, according to his words, he has spoken with approximately 70 world leaders. Billionaire Elon Musk is said to have joined the phone call with Zelensky. According to Axios, Trump told the Ukrainian leader that he would continue to support Kyiv, but did not go into details. This conversation was allegedly reassuring for Zelensky.
The Kremlin reported on Friday that Putin is ready to discuss Ukraine with Trumpbut this does not mean that he is willing to change Russia’s demands for ending the war, Reuters reminded.
