Government: 5 land expropriations, the first in 8 years – 12/09/2024 – Panel

The government is directing the expropriation of five areas in the country to settle around 800 families, in yet another measure sought by the (Landless Rural Workers Movement). These will be the first expropriations in eight years.

the Ministry of Agrarian Development is betting on a package of measures at the end of the year to respond to protests and invasions by the movement.

The last land expropriations in the country occurred in 2016, when the then president (PT) signed 21 decrees for agrarian reform.

The government is now working on expropriations in five areas. In (MG), there are three farms, with 3,605 hectares, which would be enough to settle 300 families.

In Pau D’Arco (PA), the Santa Lúcia farm, with an area of ​​5,694 hectares, can accommodate 224 families. In 2017, the farm hosted one. In August, he recommended that the (National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform) and the ministry expropriate the site.

Another area that is being expropriated is the Crixá farm, in Formosa (GO), with the capacity to settle 218 families.

In the south of the country there are two expropriations underway. In Barbosa Ferraz (PR), the São Paulo farm can accommodate up to 60 families, while in Cruz Alta (RS), the Horto Florestal Cruz Alta property, with 125 hectares, is capable of housing 12 families.
