A Russian cargo ship has sunk in international waters in the Mediterranean after an explosion on board, two crew members are missing. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed about this in Telegram on Tuesday.
The Ursa Major ship sank “after an explosion in the engine room,” the ministry’s crisis unit said. Of the 16 Russian crew members, 14 were rescued and taken to the Spanish port of Cartagena.
Oboronlogistika, which belongs to the Ministry of Defense, says the ship was carrying harbor cranes and hatch covers for icebreakers.
The Ursa Major, according to marine traffic website MarineTraffic.com, measures 124.7 meters (409 feet) and was bound for Vladivostok in the Russian Far East from St. Petersburg.
