The national president of Cidadania, Comte Bittencourt, states that the party should not maintain the federation signed in 2022 with . The partnership ends in the first half of 2026.
Bittencourt says that “the predominant feeling” of party members is to “walk separately” from the party. “We are going to have a debate in a little more depth, something that did not happen in 2022. The core of our problem was not having debated the program and project”, he says.
He even says that this was already a topic of conversation between him and the president of the PSDB. Like , the PSDB will announce in March what the future of the party will be: whether it will form a new federation, a merger or a party incorporation.
“We will hardly remain in the federation with the PSDB, even if they join other parties, because the federative experience was not good. The predominant assessment among Cidadania’s comrades is to be able to discuss a future direction”, says Bittencourt.
According to him, this debate should take place internally between February and March of next year. “It will be a decision with all the respect that the PSDB deserves, but the predominant feeling is that we walk separately.”
Today, Cidadania has a bench of five deputies in the Chamber. Bittencourt says that the party is also in conversation with other parties. “Conversation is a natural process in politics, but it is something we will do internally. The first step is to decide not to continue in the federation. Then, open the debate to see which path we will take in 2026”, he says.
