What is Mega da Virada?
Mega da Virada, also known as Mega-Sena da Virada, offers the biggest non-cumulative prize of the year. On the last day of December, a few hours before January, the draw rewards the person who matches the six numbers drawn. If there is no winner in this category, the prize is awarded to those who match five numbers, following this pattern until it is distributed to more than one person, if there are correct bets.
Participating in the contest is simple: just play a game at any physical lottery outlet or online, through . The value of the in-person bet is R$5, while virtual bets start at R$30. The amount paid varies depending on the number of numbers chosen, influencing the probability of success. Bets on Mega da Virada can be placed until 6pm on the day of the draw.
How is the award made?
Unlike common Mega-Senas, Mega da Virada does not accumulate. Therefore, if no one gets six numbers right, and if they get five numbers right, if there are still no winners, the prize is divided between whoever gets the most numbers right. In other words, it is possible to become a millionaire by getting less than the corner on the draw.
Estimated at R$600 million, the prize pool is collected from the sales of bets from the draw itself and also from the accumulation of prizes from all Mega-Sena draws throughout the year. 5% of the value of each contest is set aside to add to the value of the New Year lottery.
How to redeem the prize?
Bettors who match enough numbers to receive part of the R$600 million can redeem the money at any Caixa Econômica branch within 90 days, requiring proof or bet ticket, photo ID and CPF. In the case of amounts greater than R$10,000, there is a period of two business days after presentation at the agency for deposit.
