A of the São Paulo Military Police launched a large-scale operation, called “Prodos”, with the aim of dismantling a corruption scheme involving police officers suspected of collaborating with a criminal faction. The operation resulted in the issuance of 15 arrest warrants, of which 14 have already been successfully executed. Among those detained this Thursday (15) is a police officer accused of shooting Antônio Vinícius Gritzbach, a whistleblower from the at São Paulo International Airport, in Guarulhos, on November 8th. The operation’s actions are being carried out both in the capital of São Paulo and in the metropolitan region. For now, the identity of the agent has not been disclosed.

The investigation that culminated in the “Prodos” operation began in March last year, after the Internal Affairs Department received complaints that some police officers were favoring a criminal organization. The accusations against these police officers include facilitating the arrest of members of the faction and protecting them from financial losses. Seven months after the investigations began, an inquiry was formally opened, leading to the ongoing operation. The Public Security Secretariat revealed that the police officers involved belong to both the corporation’s active and reserve staff.

The operation is supported by a task force from the Public Security Secretariat, created specifically to identify and punish police officers who maintain relationships with criminal organizations. During the investigations, it was discovered that some police officers, who should have been responsible for escorting important people for the investigations, were directly linked to the criminal faction. So far, only one arrest warrant remains to be served, and authorities are working to ensure that everyone involved is brought to justice.

The Internal Affairs Department and the Public Security Secretariat plan to hold a press conference to provide more details about the investigations and the next steps of the “Prodos” operation. This action represents a significant effort to combat corruption within the security forces and ensure that the law is applied fairly and impartially. The operation highlights the importance of maintaining the integrity of police institutions and public trust in the justice system.
