This measure aims to reduce costs and ensure that benefits reach workers effectively.

The Minister of the Civil House, , revealed a new government strategy to face rising food prices. The proposal, revealed during a meeting this Friday (24) with President Lula, involves reducing the import tax on food products that have lower prices on the international market compared to national ones. “If the prices of these products on the international market are lower than on the national market, this will be quickly analyzed and the import tariff on these products will be reduced. In other words, for products that have a higher domestic price than the external price, we will act to reduce the rate to force the price to reach at least the international level”, said the minister.

In addition to reducing taxes, the government is preparing to establish a dialogue with rural producers and supermarket chains. The objective is to find solutions that help lower prices and increase food production. The inflation observed in 2024 was largely attributed to pressure from commodities on the international stage, leading the government to focus on essential foods and improving the productivity of small farmers. Another initiative on the agenda is the regulation of the meal and food vouchers market. This measure aims to reduce costs and ensure that benefits reach workers effectively.

Discussions about the reasons behind rising prices and the actions needed to mitigate them are ongoing, with an emphasis on expanding agricultural credit and offering technical assistance to producers.
