Thousands of protesters against and in favor of the South Korean president, Yoon Suk Yeol, took to the streets to protest in the center of the capital Seoul on Saturday (25). The protests were summoned after a court rejected a request from the prosecutor’s office, which requested the extension of Yoon’s temporary arrest.
The Central District Court of Seoul saying that there was “no substantial reason” why prosecutors needed to continue the investigation, as they already obtained evidence, the Yonhap news agency said.
The politician, who suffered an impeachment, was suspended from office on December 14. He has been in prison since January 14 and detention deadline wins on January 28. The country’s corruption office has reported that they expect prosecutors to try a new extension of the deadline before making formal accusations against Yoon.
The president faces accusations of insurrection and abuse of power. This after it imposed the measure lasted a few hours, but it was enough to shock the country.
