World Skate announced on Thursday (3) a minimum age for the participation of athletes in tournaments governed by the International Federation of the sport, such as World, Pro Tour and the Olympic Games.
This age will be 11 years in 2025 and will progressively increase during the Los Angeles cycle, until it stabilizes in 14 years of 2028 onwards.
To get an idea of the impact of the change, Rayssa Leal, the “Fadinha”, when she won the silver medal in the Tokyo Games was 13 years old. She is even the youngest medalist in Brazil’s history.
World Skate explained that the minimum age will be based on the year of birth of each athlete. The example cited by the entity is from a person born in 2014, who will be considered 11 years for all events that were scheduled between January 1st and December 31, 2025.
According to the rule, athletes elected after December 31, 2014 will be removed from the current world skate ranking from April 1, 2025.
Also according to the document, for specific events such as the Youth Olympic Games, Junior Pan American Games or others aimed at supporting development projects, the minimum age will be defined as 12 years from 2026.
