The King of Morocco, Mohamed VI, has announced the implementation of a new plan with the inauguration of the works to create a collection platform for the Sabat-Salenitra region. The objective of this initiative is respond immediately to possible catastrophes, such as earthquakes or floods, as well as other chemical, industrial or radiological risks.
Some of the project goals, of approximately 668 million euros, They are, among some others, to offer the ability to give refuge to civilians by providing 200,000 tents and multiservice equipment, or feeding the population that is affected through mobile kitchens and prepared meals.
In addition, the initiative also includes the delivery of filtration and treatment equipment of drinking water and electricity generation, the development of rescue and intervention equipment for this type of situations or the delivery of health care to the affected population with the creation of campaign hospitals, emergency operating units and services units of different specialties.
The network will be storing supplies that can be fundamental in emergency situationssuch as campaign stores, beds, food or medications. Regarding the project facilities, a twelve platforms are expected to be raised – that will cover about 240 hectares – with 36 ships, distributed according to each region and their possible risks.
This plan has been carried out after the 6.8 MW magnitude earthquake that shook the country in September 2023, which ended at least 3,000 people and the approximate destruction of 55,000 homes.
