Rio and Niterói present a candidacy for PAN – 08/08/2025 – Esporte

The joint candidacy of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói to host the 2031 Pan American Games made, on Friday (8), the last presentation of the project, aired for voters who will define the place of competitions.

The exhibition took place in Asuncion, Paraguay, during the 63rd Assembly of Panam Sports, an entity that brings together the 41 National Olympic Committees of the Americas. The Paraguayan capital is precisely the only competitor of Brazilian cities.

Conducted by the president of COB (Olympic Committee of Brazil), Marco Antônio La Porta, the presentation of Brazil highlighted the sports and social legacy that the event could leave to the municipalities and emphasized that most of the structures needed for competitions are ready.

“Rio de Janeiro and Niterói are ready to receive the Americas again. Our main mission is to contribute to the evolution of the Pan American sport, starting even before 2031,” La Porta said.

Also present at the event, the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes (PSD), cited the use of the so-called PPPs (public-private partnerships) for the construction of the Pan American village, in the port zone, as well as the creation, together with Niterói, of new sports facilities, with the inauguration of 20 Olympic gyms by 2031.

“Organizing great events that enchant the world is in our DNA. But, together with the hospitality, beauty and energy of our people, there is solid planning and responsibility in the management of this project,” said Paes.

It is estimated that the budget can reach R $ 3.7 billion, as expected to be postulated to host the PAN.

The city of Asuncion also made its presentation on Friday. The Paraguayan capital has shown ready -made facilities, which are being used at Pan Junior, and others that are planned, such as athlete centers and a housing development.

The forecast of Asuncion investment for the 2031 PAN is US $ 353 million (R $ 1.9 billion), with 95% paragraphs by the Paraguayan government and 5% by the private sector.

“Paraguay made a slightly more technical presentation, and we tried to pass exactly our proposal from Rio and Niterói put Brazil back on the scenario of major events,” said La Porta.
