New President of the Supreme says that a submissive judiciary, “even to populism,” loses its credibility
Minister Edson Fachin took over this Monday (29.Set.2025) the presidency of the Supreme Court (STF). He made a speech in defense of judicial independence, but signaled that the court will have a more contained performance. He defended rationality, balance and collegiality. He pushed the idea that the Supreme person needs to exercise protagonism in the political scene.
“Judicial independence is not a privilege, but a republican condition. A submissive judiciary, whatever, even if populism, loses its credibility. Jurisdictional provision is not a spectacle, it requires containment.”Fachin said, reinforcing his most discreet magistrate image. He emphasized that he intends to reinforce the collegiality and diversity of internal views.
