Daniel Ek will remain as executive president while Norström and Söderström, current directors, assume leadership of the platform in January 2026
It announced it on Tuesday (30.Set.2025) that Alex Norström and Gustav Söderström will assume as Co-Ceos from January 1, 2026, replacing founder Daniel EK, who will be president of the company.
The transition occurs almost 20 years after the founding of the streamingwhich registered its 1st lucrative year in 2024, but was injured in the 2nd quarter of 2025.
The new leaders already occupy prominent positions in the company. Norström acts as co-president and business director, while Söderström is co-president and director of products and technology.
In to employees, Daniel Ek said he will continue in the company. “We could not be better positioned. And to make it clear, I will not leave. I will remain deeply involved in the great decisive decisions about our future.”said the 42 -year -old executive.
The announcement of the change was made at Spotify headquarters in Stockholm, where the platform was created in 2006. Daniel Ek describes the start of the company in “A small makeshift office in Riddargatan, Stockholm”.
The company’s shares fell about 4% pre-market after the transition announcement. Nevertheless, the value of the papers has practically doubled in the last 12 months.
The company did not disclose details on how the division of responsibilities will work between the 2 new CEOs, nor will there be changes in the current strategy. The co-ceos model, although uncommon, has been adopted by other technology companies, such as Netflix.
