A Dra. Carolina Ambroginigynecologist and sexologist at Unifesp (Federal University of São Paulo), explained to CNN that sapiosexuals are “who are more attracted to someone’s intellectual side than their physical side: someone who is very intelligent, who has the same cultural tastes and who they admire for their intelligence.”
According to the doctor, it is more common for women to be sapiosexuals, because the attraction to intellect is related to the idea of emotional security.
“Whether you like it or not, what causes attraction depends a lot on your own emotional baggage. An intelligent person is someone who can handle themselves in different situations and offer security. I see this as something more common in women — both for male and female partners,” he told CNN.
Ambrogini explained that intelligent women can “scare” men and create blocks in relation to attraction and genuine interest, other than the physical.
“These barriers come more from each person’s personal difficulties in relationships and expressing their own sexuality, not specifically due to intellectual attraction. These issues are more linked to personal aspects and the individual construction of sexuality”, reported the doctor.
