Buenos Aires stands out in international rankings and surpasses other Latin American capitals in quality of life
The capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires, was recognized as the best city in South America to live in in 2024, according to a survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).
The study evaluated 173 cities around the world, considering factors such as political stability, health, education, culture, environment and infrastructure.
With 82.8 points, Buenos Aires was at the top among Latin American cities, thanks to the balance between quality of life, efficient public services and affordable cost of living.

The research highlighted that the Argentine capital’s urban planning and investments in mobility and security contributed to the good performance.
The EIU analysis follows a methodology that takes into account five pillars: stability, health system, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.
The result confirms the role of Buenos Aires as a vibrant and organized metropolis, capable of offering good conditions for both residents and foreigners who choose to live there.
In addition to the Argentine capital, the ranking also highlighted Montevideo (Uruguay) and Santiago (Chile), which appear close behind, occupying second and third place in South America.
Both achieved scores above 80, driven by good infrastructure and positive safety indices.
Brazil was also present: São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are among the top ten in the region.
Even with challenges in the areas of transport and security, the two cities remain cultural and economic references on the continent.
