In yet another chapter, the Housing Department sent a letter to the federal administration questioning the financing conditions of the program. For the state agency, the interest rates charged are abusive.
Launched by Lula on Monday (20) as a nod to the middle class, the program offers easy credit for home renovations for families with incomes of up to R$9,600.
For families with a gross monthly income of up to R$3,200, the interest will be 1.17% per month. For those earning between R$3,200 and R$9,600, the rate will be up to 1.95% per month.
State Secretary of Housing, Marcelo Branco says that the interest rates of the federal program may exceed or are at the same level as , .
In letters sent to ministers Jader Filho, of Cities, and Guilherme Boulos, of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, the Tarcísio government says that the modeling of the program “reinforces social inequalities instead of reducing them, which goes against the principles that should guide public policies aimed at social housing”.
In the document, the Tarcísio administration praises its Viver Melhor program, which carries out renovations in precarious housing and makes an average investment of R$40,000 in non-refundable funds for families in vulnerable situations.
